The students of Sandaig Primary School in Scotland use their blogging to show what they are learning in class. They are able to add pictures to help illustrate what they are saying. They can give instructions to tell how they created their projects. They also use blogging as just a fun way to communicate with each other and their parents. They also can show what kinds of events they have at their school such as programs or visitors.

In Mr. Hill’s class, he uses blogs to give his students some heads up on tests and projects. He also uses this as a way to give last minutes tips and clues that will help his students do well in his class. He uses the blog as a reminder to his students of important events along with the dates. His blogs seem quite helpful as it is like being able to take him home with you. I image his students if necessary would have a way to reply to him if they had questions and were not in class to ask. On the whole I think this is a handy tool for the classroom whatever the reason for using it.

Gaby Ackert’s class is using blogs to practice Spanish. They are speaking to students in Central and South America and Spain so that they can begin to expand their ability to speak fluently. They also are able to find out a little more about these countries. They are encouraged to find out the similarities in their country and U.S. and the differences as well. This also helps the Spanish speaking kids with learning their second language English. I think that is awesome.

Heidi Vasallo’s class is a third grade class using blogs to talk to other third grade classes about their habitats. They are able to give descriptions of their own habitat and find out about other habitats. I assume the kids can use this as a study aid in the respect that making friends will help them remember about what they are learning. They will be able to bring what they find out to class and share the information with their classmates. And again the classes on the receiving end will be able to do the same. It makes learning in the classroom a whole new environment. No pun intended.

ALEX
The website, http://www.alex.state.al.us is an excellent resource for any teacher looking to maximize the effectiveness of their teaching. I found that this website offers many tools to help with teaching and it would be silly not to use it. It has what could be practice tests or quizzes that could be used in class. It also has great activities that the kids could do as extra credit or just plain fun. It also has a section for the kids that would be great for extra help it they needed it. This website is very easy to navigate even if you are not a “computer literate person”.
I could see myself using this website on a regular basis. It can be used to help create lesson plans, as well as, getting fun ideas to help the children learn in a little more fun fashion. For the harder subjects like math and science, using some of the activity sheets could prove quite helpful in allowing a student to visualize what they are learning instead of just hearing. I give this website two thumbs up.

ACCESS
After reviewing http://www.accessdl.state.al.us/ , I have to say I wasn’t all that amused with it. Now granted it is a great way to allow our children the ability to advance in education, but it is a little hard to understand what you are looking at. Some of the navigation was easy, but other parts of it were too formal. I suppose if it was a parent or student that knew exactly what they were looking for it would be easy, but for someone like me that gets lost in formality; it just wasn’t that easy to follow. I would definitely be a “contact us” person.
As far as using it in my classroom, definitely, anything that will help a student go farther in education is always a plus in my book. I could definitely use this website to help my students get the education they disserve. I like that there is the ability to take practically any course out there even if the school doesn’t offer it. I think this is a wonderful idea.

About Me
I'm 28 years old as of December 22, 2007. I am the mother of a beautiful red headed boy named Noah. And yes he is the cutest thing in the WORLD!!! I am not comfortable with describing myself and don't much care for it. I will say though that I hate mayonaise, anything fish, and sweet freakin' tea. Nasty stuff. I'm not always pestimesstic and I am controlling, but not in a bad way. I enjoy good comedy and dance clubs. whoo hoo. I love my family and wish I could win a ginormaous lottery. Thank you for your concern.
